IQNA – The spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned continued Israeli crimes in Gaza, noting that the atrocities against Palestinians are the top issue in the region.

“The most pressing issue in the region is the ongoing genocide and atrocities in Gaza,” said Esmaeil Baghaei on Monday at the outset of his weekly press conference in Tehran.

“This deeply pains the heart of any free and conscientious human being. You cannot speak about the region, diplomacy, or international developments while remaining silent about the genocide taking place before our very eyes,” he added.

The remarks come as Israeli attacks against Gaza in the past 19 months have destroyed large swaths of the territory, displaced almost all of the population internally, killed at least 58,900 people, and sparked a humanitarian disaster in the besieged area as lack of food, water, and medicine continues to claim lives.

“Just today, in the latest crime, Zionist forces targeted a school in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of nearly 50 innocent people,” Baghaei said, adding, “These crimes are part of a broader genocide that has intensified over the past two years.”

“However, we believe this genocide began in 1948, on the day of the Nakba, and unfortunately, it has continued—facilitated by both silence and, in some cases, active support from the United States and certain Western countries; over the past two years, the scale of the violence has grown horrifically.”

“I believe our region will never forget these crimes, especially the complicity of those who knowingly contribute to their continuation by supplying weapons, financial aid, and diplomatic cover, ensuring impunity for the perpetrators,” the spokesperson added.
