New Textbook on Quranic Sciences Introduced as Official Curriculum in Iran’s Islamic Seminaries

The book, titled Ulum-e Qurani (Quranic Sciences), was unveiled during a ceremony on Saturday, June 7. The project was led by Hojat-ol-Islam Seyyed Reza Moaddab, who also serves as the book’s lead editor.

Speaking at the launch event, Moaddab explained that the book was developed to familiarize seminary students with key introductory topics related to understanding the Quran. These include Quranic miracles, the process of revelation, compilation of the text, and methods of interpretation.

“This textbook was written with the contribution of nine distinguished scholars from the seminary,” Moaddab said. “It may be considered one of the first collective efforts in this field that adopts an up-to-date approach based on the latest academic and interpretive perspectives.”

He noted that the development process took approximately two and a half years. Each section of the book was written by a specialist in the relevant topic. He added: “We’ve also made an effort to include the views of prominent figures such as Allameh Tabatabai. No book is beyond improvement, of course, and we hope future editions will benefit from feedback gathered during classroom use.”

Hojat-ol-Islam Farhad Abbasi, Deputy for Research at the Center for Curriculum Development in the Seminary, also addressed the event. He emphasized the textbook’s significance, saying: “This will be the official source for the ‘Quranic Sciences’ course, which includes 32 hours of instruction and will be included in the curriculum for all seminaries across the country.”

He pointed out several of the book’s distinguishing features, including its collaborative authorship, comprehensive content, and alignment with modern educational methodologies. “It also offers innovative responses to contemporary questions and incorporates the latest academic findings,” Abbasi added.

The textbook is set to be taught in over 400 seminaries nationwide.
