Hezbollah Denounces Assassination of Shia Cleric in Syria’s Homs

IQNA – The Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah strongly condemned the assassination of Sheikh Rasoul Shahoud, a prominent Shia cleric, in the outskirts of Homs, Syria.

In a statement on Saturday, Hezbollah said the purpose behind this heinous crime was to create instability and disrupt the unity of Syria.

The crime of assassination of Sheikh Shahoud was carried out by the hands of criminals who are trying to destroy the unity of Syria and ignite sectarian and religious strife among the people of this country, the statement read.

“We emphasize the necessity of prosecuting and punishing all those who were involved in this crime.”

Sheikh Shahoud was targeted by armed elements near a checkpoint in al-Mazraa Village in the suburbs of Homs earlier this week.

He was shot directly and killed instantly while returning from the gardens of the al-Wa’r neighborhood.

After his assassination, the residents of the area showed their anger towards this crime by holding a demonstration and demanded the prosecution of its perpetrators. They held the government of Ahmed al-Jolani, the leader of the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) group, responsible for this crime.
