He said the ministry is planning to expand cooperation in tourism with neighbouring and Islamic countries, adding that “one of our serious goals is to develop tourism with neighbouring countries and the Islamic world, and in this regard, halal tourism holds a special place.”

Salehi Amiri noted that Iran places priority on Central Asia, the Caucasus and the Nowruz region, followed by Persian Gulf countries and then major Islamic nations such as Egypt, Indonesia and Malaysia.

“All these countries are defined within the framework of the concept of halal tourism and they share cultural, historical and religious capacities with Iran,” he said.

He described the “halal” brand as “one of the effective platforms in developing the tourism industry between Islamic countries,” and said it “can provide a suitable basis for attracting Muslim tourists to Iran and increasing cultural and economic interactions among nations.”

He added that “fortunately, Iran is among the countries ahead in the realm of halal tourism and is pursuing this path seriously. Coordinated planning has been held to introduce Iran’s tourism capacities in Islamic countries, and this process will continue with cooperation among cultural and economic bodies.”

Halal tourism is a fast-growing segment of global travel, focusing on services that align with Islamic practices — such as halal food, prayer facilities, gender-sensitive amenities and alcohol-free environments.

According to the 2025 edition of the Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI), international Muslim traveller arrivals reached 176 million in 2024 — a 25 % rise over 2023 — and are projected to hit 245 million by 2030.

Research shows that Iran was ranked 9th among all destinations in the GMTI and is one of the top providers of halal-friendly services among the member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
