Mahmoud Farshchian (1930–2025), born in Isfahan, was a towering figure in Persian miniature painting. He trained under masters Haji Mirza Agha Emami and Issa Bahadori and later integrated Western artistic techniques into traditional forms. Over decades, he earned international acclaim with works such as The Evening of Ashura, The Guarantor of the Gazelle, and Ghadir Khumm.

Farshchian passed away on August 9, 2025, in New Jersey, US, at the age of 95, due to pneumonia. His funeral procession in Isfahan began at the School of Fine Arts—where he first studied—and concluded at the tomb of Saeb Tabrizi, in line with his final will.

High-ranking cultural officials, including Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Abbas Salehi, attended the ceremony.
