-- The initiative adopted by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Awqaf (endowment) and Islamic Affairs to set up a center for charity studies is a leading and distinguished step, said Assistant Secretary General of the World Islamic Council for Call and Relief Bader Al-Mas on Friday.
--Talking to KUNA on the sidelines of the 19th meeting of the council's founding panel in Cairo, Al-Mas hoped that the center would soon come to existence and would help enhance Islamic charity work worldwide.

Referring to the center as a "unique" initiative, he said it would focus on qualifying cadres in the field as well as preparing future plans in the field.

Al-Mas highlighted Kuwait's role in all the activities of the Islamic council.

As for the council's Thursday meeting, Al-Mas said it came at the time when the Islamic world was going through disputes and struggles that necessitated drawing up an "urgent relief strategy" for Muslims.

Featuring high on the meeting agenda was the offence against Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) in Western media under claims of freedom of expression disregarding Muslims' feelings all over the world.

"Such individual provocative acts aim at dragging Muslims to vain marginal disputes, and therefore, the response to them has to be knowledgeable and calm, far from fanaticism," Al-Mas said.

He added that the council was working out serious steps to respond to such acts through highlighting the real image of Islam, Prophet Mohammad and his elevated human message.

Meanwhile, the council celebrated yesterday the issuance of "The Muslim Family Charter," a reference of whatever matters concerned a Muslim family in which 20 top Muslim clerics took part.

"It identifies the rights and duties of each member in the family ... It is like a glossary of educational thinking and family relations that is being translated into many languages," he concluded.
