Quran Competitions Help Strengthen Society, Says Veteran Iranian Qari

Salimi made the remarks in an interview with IQNA after serving as head of the judging panel at the first national “Zayen al-Aswat” Quran competition in Qom.

The event, held on October 1–2, 2025, was organized by the Al al-Bayt Institute’s Quranic Affairs Center under the slogan “Quran, the Book of the Faithful,” and brought together young qaris and memorizers from across Iran.

More than 1,600 people applied, and 94 reached the finals. The organizers described the contest as both a competition and a training platform for future Quran ambassadors.

“Quran competitions like Zayen al-Aswat are an exceptional opportunity,” Salimi said. “If we familiarize the youth with Quranic culture and thought, we will have capable future managers whose only goal is to please God and serve people.”

He said such contests are not merely performances but educational workshops. “In these competitions we aim to train Quranic messengers who can show the radiant face of the Quran and the Islamic Revolution to the world,” he said.

Salimi stressed that all cultural and Quranic institutions share responsibility for expanding Quranic activities.
“If other organizations can hold similar or even better competitions, it will be a great service in mobilizing society to connect young people with the Quran,” he said.

He called on the Education Ministry to enhance the quality of Quran education in schools and urged Quranic institutions and experts to cooperate. “We invite all Quranic institutes, organizations and scholars to extend a helping hand,” he said.

Salimi warned against allowing the Quran to be neglected. “We must not let the Quran be pushed to the margins,” he said. “If we do, we will face the Prophet’s (PBUH) complaint on the Day of Judgment.”

Looking ahead, he said the goal is to strengthen long-term engagement with the Quran among young Iranians.
“The institute wants these talented youth to gain other skills as well so they can act as Quranic envoys of the Islamic Republic, even in other countries,” he said. “They can introduce the Quranic face of our nation to the world.”
