-- On the occasion of Imam Hussein’s (AS) birth anniversary, an international festival entitled “Rabi-o-Shahadat” is to be held in the holy city of Karbela on July 26.
According to Bratha News Agency, in a meeting with Iraqi Muslim scholars and researchers, held in Karbela Islamic Science Faculty on June 23, custodian of Imam Hussein’s (AS) holy shrine Sheikh Abd-ol-Mahdi Al-Karbelaie stressed that holding this festival would help to promote the scientific, religious and cultural status of the holy city of Karbela in the world.

During the meeting, Abd-ul-Amir Kazem, dean of Karbela Islamic Sciences Faculty, announced that a scientific congress under the title of “Islam and its Problems in the 21st Century” will be held by Karbala University, adding that the congress seeks to investigate the problems and challenges facing Islam and Muslims in different countries round the world.

He further urged establishment of a specialized faculty of Islamic sciences and jurisprudence in Karbala, saying that in the past Karbala was the center of Islamic sciences and jurisprudence and a major city in which the Ahl-ul-Bayt’s (AS) teachings were propagated. “But unfortunately due to all the tyranny, oppression and pressures by Saddam’s regime, the universities and scientific centers in this city lost the lofty status they once enjoyed.”
