Mosques; Pioneers of Quranic Educational Programs in Egypt

IQNA – The Egyptian ministry of Awqaf announced the continuation of the ministry’s efforts to implement Quranic memorization programs in mosques.

It said the programs are held in Maktabs (traditional Quran schools) of mosques.

The ministry continues its efforts in the field of Quranic memorization and implements various Quranic activities in accordance with the specified criteria and mechanisms in Quranic memorization schools, it said, Youm7 website reported.

These activities are carried out in line with the programs aimed at activating Quranic memorization schools as active Quranic minarets and are effective in educating Quranic generations proficient in the Book of God, the ministry said.

It said a total of 1,797 Maktabs and 89 remote Quranic memorization circles are active in Egypt, which indicates the breadth of Quranic services and the diversity in the way Quranic programs are presented in the country.

In related news, a “Correct Your Recitation” program was implemented by the Awqaf Department in Sohag Governorate in line with the Awqaf ministry’s emphasis on improving the level of Quran recitation and spreading the correct Quranic culture in mosques.

Participants in this program formed Quranic circles and learned to recite while observing the rules of Tajweed and the use of letters.

The Sohag Awqaf department is planning to implement this Quranic programs in other mosques in the governorate with the aim of reviving the role of the mosque as a center for learning knowledge and faith and a place for human development.
