TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani described Islam as a religion of peace, stressing that Islam condemns acts of terrorism.

Speaking in a telephone conversation with his French counterpart François Hollande on Tuesday, Hojat-ol-Islam Rouhani also called for a united front against terrorism in the world.

He referred to the recent terror attacks in Paris and expressed condolences to the French nation and government over the tragic event.

The Iranian chief executive underscored that given the will of world nations and governments, terrorist groups can never reach their objectives.

In order for eradicating terrorism in the world, there needs to be concerted efforts by all countries, he stated.

President Rouhani also referred to the martyrdom of some 17,000 Iranians by terrorist groups and expressed Iran’s readiness to joint anti-terrorist moves anywhere in the world.

The French president, for his part, said the terrorist attacks on Paris were attacks on the whole world.

He said he would make efforts to unite all countries against the ISIL terrorist group, which has claimed responsibility for the Paris attacks.

The coordinated terrorist attacks in and around the French capital left at least 132 people dead and some 200 others injured on Friday night.

A few hours after the attacks, Rouhani sent a message to Hollande and expressed deep condolences on the deaths of innocent people in the French capital.
