According to the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization, Seyyed Mohammad Azhar Zohdi, head of Al-Abrar center affiliated to Deobandi society of India, met with Mohammad Ali Rabbani, the Iranian cultural representative, on the 40th day after the demise of the Iranian senior cleric Ayatollah Taskhiri.
He described the cleric as a unique figure in the Muslim world who was particularly respected by great religious figures.
Zohdi also noted that the scholar had a true understanding of the current situation of the Muslim world and a deep belief in the necessity of proximity and unity in the Muslim Ummah.
He expressed hope that the late cleric’s efforts in promotion of proximity of Islamic schools of thought will continue by others.
The Indian figure also elaborated on Al-Abrar center’s activities and asked for cooperation with the Iranian center in cultural, educational and Quranic fields.
The Iranian official, for his part, welcomed the suggestion of the Indian scholar for mutual cooperation and said that the Cultural Center is ready to start the cooperation with holding educational workshops.
Rabbani appreciated the Indian scholars’ expression of condolences over the loss of the Iranian senior scholar and said that Ayatollah Taskhiri believed in dialogue as an effective approach in human and Islamic coexistence.
He was one of the few religious figures who, as a professional preacher, believed in the necessity of dialogue among Islamic faiths and made great efforts in this way, Rabbani added.
