TEHRAN (IQNA) – A senior Iranian cleric stressed the need for protecting the spiritual achievements that the faithful have made during the holy month of Ramadan.

Hojat-ol-Islam Kazem Sediqi

Delivering sermons after Eid al-Fitr prayers at the University of Tehran on Tuesday, Hojat-ol-Islam Kazem Sediqi said Muslims endured the hardships of fasting, including thirst and hunger, in Ramadan and accomplished a highest status spiritually.

Now it would be a pity if one fails to keep such an accomplishment and other blessing of Ramadan, he added.

He said Eid al-Fitr is the day of reward, adding that those who fasted in the holy month and strived on the path to nearness to God are all winners and will be rewarded by God.

Elsewhere in the sermons, Hojat-ol-Islam Sediqi hailed the massive participation of people in the International Quds Day rallies, which demonstrated once again that Quds and Palestine are alive and the number one issue in the Muslim world.

A large number of worshipers attended the Eid prayers at the University of Tehran campus.

Eid prayers were also held in mosques and Mosallas (prayer halls) across the country.

Also called Feast of Breaking the Fast, Eid al-Fitr is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims around the world.

The observance traditionally begins with the sighting of the new moon of the 10th month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

The festival is a specific day on which Muslims are not permitted to fast.

The holiday celebrates the conclusion of 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan. The day of Eid falls on the first day of the month of Shawwal.
