TEHRAN (IQNA) – The best description for Eid al-Fitr can be found in the words of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) who said, “Eid Al-Fitr is the day of reward.”

Eid al-Fitr

Eid al-Fitr is a reward for those who fasted during the holy month of Ramadan. It is an Eid that welcomes those who fasted and gives them the good news that their good deeds have been accepted. At the heart of this reward, there are greater rewards from God for the faithful who fasted in Ramadan. On this day, God tells His servants that they can ask Him for anything as reward.

It has been narrated from Ibn Abbas that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) said, “… and when the night prior to Eid al-Fitr, which is called the night of rewards, comes, God gives the reward of those who obeyed him (in Ramadan) without assessing and counting their deeds.

When the day of Eid al-Fitr begins, God sends the angels to all cities, where they take their positions at access points of roads, and say, “O Ummah of Muhammad (PBUH)! Come out to your most Noble and Gracious Lord, who grants much, and pardons the major sins”.

When they (the Ummah) proceed to their places of prayer, Allah, Exalted is He, says to His angels, “O My angels! What is the reward of a worker when he has done his work?”

So they (the angels) say, “Our Lord and Our Master! To receive his reward [for the work, in full]”.

So He says, “I call you to witness that, for their fasts [during Ramadan], and for their standing in prayer at night, I have made their reward My Pleasure, and my Forgiveness. Depart [from here], you are forgiven”’.

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) added, “So the angels inform and congratulate one another for what God has given to this Ummah at the iftar of the month of Ramadan.
