TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi once again stressed the need to promote unity among Muslims across the world.

“Just like Ahl al-Bayt (AS) who were symbols of unity, Muslims should be united and confront those who stand against Islam and kill Muslims,” Raeisi said on Thursday while addressing worshippers at Ahl al-Bayt Rasool Allah Mosque in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

While expressing condolences over the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), he also talked about different aspects of Arbaeen.

He is the central Asian country to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.

Iran has always stressed unity in the Muslim world. Late Founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran Imam Khomeini initiated the Islamic Unity Week back in the 1980s.

The week comes between the 17th day of Rabi al-Awwal which is believed by Shia Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), and the 12th day of the month which Sunni Muslims regard as the birthday of the last prophet.

Every year an event called Islamic Unity Conference is also held in Iran to mark this unity.
