Winners of 2nd Meshkat Int'l Quran Contest Announced

TEHRAN (IQNA) – In a ceremony on Friday, winners of the 2nd edition of the Meshkat international Quran competition were announced.

 

The ceremony was held in Tehran concurrent with the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

More than 1,000 participants from 73 countries had taken part in the preliminary stage of the competition while 153 individuals made it to the final of the event which was held from September 29 to October 3.

They compete in the categories of Quran recitation for men and Quran memorization for men and women.

In the women’s recitation category, Zahra Khalil from Iran won the top award while Asi Pavnari from Indonesia and Asie Ahmad Ali from Nigeria stood next.

In men’s memorization, the top prize went to Abdullah Ali Hassan from Egypt. Ayamuddin Fakhruddin from Russia and Zakaria Abu al-Aql from Belgium ranked second and third.

In the men’s recitation category, Khalil Savari from Iran won the title. Gholam Rasool Abbasi from Afghanistan and Lotfi Kamal from Indonesia stood next.

The winner of each category will be awarded a cash prize of 800 million Rials (nearly $2,600 USD) while the two next ranks will receive 700 and 600 million Rials (nearly $2,300 and $2,000 USD) respectively.

The competition was organized in two separate national and international sections.
