TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Pakistani minister says political weakness is one of the reasons behind the normalization of ties between some Muslim countries and the Israeli regime.

“I think this normalization of ties is because of the weakness of these countries in various scientific and political issues and they have been forced to have ties with Zionists,” Mufti Abdul Shakoor Sardar Khan, Pakistan's Minister of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, told IQNA on the sidelines of the 36th International Islamic Unity Conference.

Pakistan’s policy has always been considering the Zionist regime as a “wound” in the Islamic World, he said, noting that Islamabad is under no pressure for normalizing ties with the Israeli regime.

Steps should be taken so that Muslim nations become independent in scientific fields, he stressed.

Al-Aqsa is the first qibla of Muslims and should be liberated; we are standing by the Palestinian nation, added the minister.

Practical steps needed for Muslim unity

“Holding sessions and conferences focused on proximity of madhabs is not enough for arriving at Muslim unity because as long as the hearts of Muslims do not come close to each other, nothing is achieved,” he said elsewhere when talking about unity in the Muslim world.

Muslims need to move closer to each other and this needs that all parties take “practical” steps, added Sardar Khan.

“When we are economically dependent on others, we cannot make independent decisions on various issues,” he said, naming the economic and technological decencies of some Muslim nations to the US as an example.

The 36th International Conference on Islamic Unity was held here in the Iranian capital last week.

Some 200 foreign guests from 60 countries and 100 Iranian guests addressed the conference in person and virtually.

The International Islamic Unity Conference is annually held in Iran by the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought (WFPIST) on the occasion of Islamic Unity Week.

The 17th day of Rabi al-Awwal, which fell on October 13 this year, is believed by Shia Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), while Sunni Muslims regard the 12th day of the month (Sunday, October 9) as the birthday of the last prophet.

The interval between the two dates is celebrated every year as Islamic Unity Week.

The late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran Imam Khomeini (RA) declared the occasion as Islamic Unity Week back in the 1980s.
