TEHRAN (IQNA) – Having a deep belief in the assessment of our deeds and the entailed punishments and rewards will influence our behavior and guide society.

Encouragement and warning play a major role in the actions of people and when God Almighty has vowed to reward and punish, the effect is multiplied. Reviving the belief in the Resurrection will have a constructive effect on humans. Those who believe that all their deeds will be judged will not become indifferent individuals toward sins. They are sure that every small act will also count. Some verses in the Holy Quran point to this issue. What follows are some examples.

Economic Issues

Addressing traders, the Quran warns: “Woe to the diminishers, who, when people measure for them, take full measure, but when they measure or weigh for others, they reduce! Do they not think that they will be resurrected for a great Day.” (Surah Al-Mutaffifin, verses 1-5)

Here the Holy Quran reminds traders of the Resurrection and this belief will have profound effects on other aspects of economic life as well.

Confronting Those Seeking Dominance

The Pharaoh invited all sorcerers to confront and neutralize the miracles of Moses. They asked the Pharaoh: “Shall we be rewarded if we are the winners?” (Surah Al-Araf, verse 113) After receiving confirmation from the Pharaoh, they put on display all they could but Moses threw his rod and it turned into a serpent, foiling their plots.

Sorcerers believed in Moses after they saw that what went before their eyes was a sign of divine power. “Do you believe in Him before I permit?” the Pharoah asked before threatening to “cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot and then crucify” them. (Surah Al-Araf, verses 123-124)

However, sorcerers who were disbelievers moments earlier became strong believers and stood in the face of the Pharoah. “Do what you want. This life is only for a short time.” (Surah Taha, verse 7) “‘There is no harm,’ they replied, ‘for surely to our Lord we are turning’.” (Surah Ash-Shu'ara, verse 50)

The story has been mentioned in verses 112-126 of Surah Al-Araf, verses 37-51 of Surah Ash-Shu'ara, and verses 56-72 of Surah Taha.

Belief in the Resurrection blew a strong faith in their spirits that led them to abandon the Pharaoh’s promised rewards and find his power and wealth very insignificant.

Yes, Belief in the Resurrection caused a cultural revolution in these people and grew their spirits so that they were ready to be martyred on the path of God.
