Salatul-Istisqa, or the prayer for rain, is a recommended act of worship in Islam, which is permissible when there is a drought and sparse rainfall, or when the level of water in the streams and wells is low, or when the river dries up.
It is a way of expressing one’s dependence on Allah and seeking His mercy and bounty.
Several Muslim countries in the region have held Istisqa prayers in the past few months given the low precipitation.
