IQNA – Thousands of Kuwaitis gathered in more than 100 mosques across the country on Saturday morning to perform Istisqa Prayers, a special prayer to seek rain from Allah.

The imams of Kuwait mosques addressed the worshipers, praying to Almighty to bless the country with rain, KUNA reported on Saturday.

The prayer, which is based on the teachings and practices of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), is held during times of drought and low rainfall. According to Islamic sources, the Prophet (PBUH) himself performed this prayer when there was a severe water shortage in Medina.

Salatul-Istisqa, or the prayer for rain, is a recommended act of worship in Islam, which is permissible when there is a drought and sparse rainfall, or when the level of water in the streams and wells is low, or when the river dries up.
