He made the remarks while addressing millions of people who gathered in Tehran on Wednesday morning to hold a historic funeral procession for President Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and other officials who lost their lives during a tragic helicopter crash on Sunday in northwest of the country.
Haniyeh said that during his latest meeting with Raisi in the blessed month of Ramadan, the late Iranian president stressed that Palestine was the top issue in the Muslim world.
Raisi believed that resistance was a strategic choice to pave the way for the liberation of Palestine, Haniyeh said, quoting the late president as saying that resistance in Palestine is the frontline for the resistance front.
Raisi said in the meeting that the Islamic Republic of Iran would continue to back the Palestinian nation till they reach their goal, Haniyeh added.
The late Iranian president has also described the Al-Aqsa Flood Operation as an earthquake that shook the Zionist regime and initiated a major global change, the Hamas chief added.
President Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and their accompanying delegation lost their lives after the helicopter carrying them crashed in the northwestern province of East Azarbaijan on May 19, 2024. Their bodies were found on Monday after an extensive night-long search operation.
Iran is observing five days of national mourning with funeral processions for the victims scheduled in multiple cities.
The remains of the late officials were transferred to the Mosalla on Tuesday afternoon following funeral processions in Tabriz and Qom earlier in the day.
A major funeral procession is also set to the held in Tehran on Wednesday morning with millions of people expected to participate.
The burial procession of President Raisi is set to be held on Thursday at Imam Reza (AS) shrine in Mashhad, northeast Iran.
