5th Int’l Quran Contest for African Scholars: Winners Announced

IQNA – The 5th edition of the Mohammed VI Quran Competition for African Oulema (scholars) wrapped up in Fes, Morocco, as winners were recognized.

 

The competition began on Friday, September 27, and concluded on Sunday, September 29.

Representatives from 48 African countries participated online, while the judging panel, consisting of experts from Morocco and other African nations, evaluated the competitors in person in the Moroccan city.

In the category of “Full Quran Memorization with Tarteel," according to the Warsh from Nafi narration, Sheikh Al-Nia Abdudaim from Mauritania secured first place. Hassan Ali Meqdad from Nigeria and Osama Zongo from Burkina Faso stood next.

In the “Full Quran Memorization with Different Narrations” category, Abdulrahman Yasin from Uganda claimed the top spot, with Mohamed Ibrahim Ahmed from Somalia and Shouthi Shebel bin Shabir from Mauritius taking second and third places, respectively.

For the Tajweed category, with memorization of at least five Juz (parts), Mody Yuri Martino from Angola won first place. The second and third spots were awarded to Mohamed Al-Bashir Niang from Senegal and Abdul Fattah Ali from South Africa.

The participants represent the branches of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Oulema in different countries.

The foundation says the competition is aimed at enhancing the youths’ bonds with the Holy Book and promoting the culture of Quran memorization, Tarteel, and recitation in Africa.
