IQNA – Seyed Parsa Angoshtan, an Iranian qari who came second in Turkey’s 9th international Quran competition earlier this week gave a comparison between Quran contests in Iran and Turkey.

Iranian memorizer Milad Asheghi (left) and qari Seyed Parsa Angoshtan (right) came second in the memorization and recitation categories of Turkey’s 9th international Quran contest.

Speaking to IQNA after returning home, Angoshtan said unlike Iran’s international Quran contest, which has a strong set of rules and is a pioneer in this regard, most of other Muslim countries that organize international Quran competitions do not have any specific rulebooks for the competitions.

In Turkey’s competition, they prefer the qaris to have a classic performance, he said, adding that they want the qari not to be preoccupied with Lahns but to pay attention to good recitation, Sawt and the rules of Tajweed.

Noting that Quran experts from ten countries evaluated the performances of the contenders, Angoshtan said winning a title in the international Quranic event was no easy task.

He thanked God that he and Iran’s representatives in the category of memorization of the entire Quran Milad Asheghi managed to win high ranks.

Both Angshtan and Asheghi finished runner-up in their respective category.

They, along with other winners, were awarded at the closing ceremony which was held Wednesday night, October 31, and was officiated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Asheghi also spoke to IQNA upon arrival at the Imam Khomeini International Airport, hailing his and Angoshtan’s success as representatives of Iran.

He thanked his Quran teachers, his family, especially his mother, and the country’s Quranic officials for contributing to his achievement.

Asheghi described the level of contestants, especially in the field of memorization, as high, noting that ten of them scored full points in the field of accurate memorization.

He said his experiences in previous competitions and consultation with Iranian memorizers who had attended the Turkish Quran contest in previous years helped him win the second rank.

Turkey’s 9th international Quran competition was held in two rounds. In the preliminary round, held in June, representatives of 93 countries submitted recorded videos of their recitations to the organizing committee. After evaluation of the files by the panel of arbiters, qairs and memorizers from 47 countries made it to the finals.

The final round was held in the city of Sanliurfa from October 23-30.
