IQNA – As the interest of people, including Jews, in the religion of Jesus (AS) increased, the Jewish leaders became terrified and sought the support of the Roman Emperor to kill Jesus.

Jesus Christ

However, the Holy Quran states, by divine will, their plot to murder him did not succeed.

Instead, according to Islamic Hadiths, a person named Judas Iscariot was mistakenly killed in place of Jesus Christ.

In the Holy Quran, this story is presented as follows: “and their statement that they murdered Jesus, son of Mary, the Messenger of God, when, in fact, they could not have murdered him or crucified him. They, in fact, murdered someone else by mistake. Even those who disputed (the question of whether or not Jesus was murdered) did not have a shred of evidence. All that they knew about it was mere conjecture. They certainly could not have murdered Jesus. God raised him up to Himself. God is Majestic and All-wise.” (Verses 157-158 of Suran An-Nisa)

Also, according to Verse 55 of Surah Al Imran: “God told Jesus, ‘I will save you from your enemies, raise you to Myself, keep you clean from the association with the disbelievers.”

These verses confirm that Jesus (AS) was not killed; instead, he ascended to heaven. The Jews claimed to have killed Jesus, while Christians believed that the Jews had executed him by crucifixion, and that after his death, God lifted him from the grave to heaven. It is mentioned in the Gospel of Mark, Chapter 6, the Gospel of Luke, Chapter 24, and the Gospel of John, Chapter 21, that Jesus Christ ascended to the heavens (and went to his eternal ascension).

After Jesus, the responsibility for spreading Christianity fell to his disciples, apostles, and subsequent missionaries. Among these individuals was Peter, who worked tirelessly and achieved significant success in this endeavor. However, some disciples, such as Paul, introduced religious deviations, including the belief in the Trinity and the divinity of Jesus, which had negative effects on Christianity. In later times, the beliefs and teachings of Christianity were reinforced by various leaders, and the religion became one of the major faiths in the world. Many historical analyses and studies indicate that these early deviations had long-lasting impacts on the teachings and history of Christianity.

In general, the Holy Quran presents its own unique perspective on the what happened to Jesus Christ and on his role in Christianity. It emphasizes that he was saved from his enemies by divine command, and that the task of spreading the faith was entrusted to his disciples and subsequent followers. This Quranic interpretation differs from other historical and religious narratives, reflecting Islam’s distinct view on the character and mission of Jesus (AS).
