IQNA – A book titled “Kalam Mubin: The Oldest Manuscripts of the Quran; Quranic Parchments in Hijazi Script,” was unveiled at the ceremony in Tehran.

A ceremony was held in Tehran on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, to unveil a book that investigates old Quran manuscripts.

The House of Humanities Thinkers in the Iranian capital hosted the ceremony on Wednesday.

Several topics were emphasized by speakers at the event, including the divine arrangement of the Quran’s chapters, the preservation of the Quranic script throughout the centuries, the absence of distortion in the Quran, and the need for further research on the manuscripts of the Sahabah (companions of the Holy Prophet (PBUH)).

Seyed Kamal Haj Seyed Javadi, the researcher of this work, stated in a speech that the research for the book took 20 years.

He said two volumes have been published so far, and the third volume, which is written on different paper rather than parchment, will be published soon.

The initial part of this research focuses on the history of the compilation of the Quran, he stated.

Haj Seyed Javadi added that this research proves that all Muslims agree the Quran has not been altered; not a single letter or word has been added or removed.

The discussion regarding the differences in recitations and the revelation based on one or seven letters was also resolved, confirming that the revelation was based on one letter, which is the Quraish dialect, he said.

Another conclusion of this research is that the script, or more specifically the script of the Quran, has been preserved across generations throughout history and should not be altered for any reason, he stressed.

“The first collection introduced in these manuscripts is the Sana’a manuscript, which is said to date back to the year 35 AH (After Hijra). Additionally, claims that the Quran had different arrangements of Surahs are not substantiated.”

He went on to say that the second volume of this collection is the manuscript of the Old Mosque of Cairo, dating back to 75 AH, known as the Hijazi Quran. “The third manuscript is also from the treasury of the Old Mosque of Cairo, which was acquired by orientalists and is now in various countries. At the end of the first volume of this book, I have written a detailed introduction in English to critique the statements of the orientalists.”

Haj Seyed Javadi further said that in the second volume, there are parchment leaves from the years 24 to 75 AH.

He added that it also includes parchment leaves from the second half of the second century AH and an endowed manuscript from the Astan Quds Razavi.

“The Quranic text, written by Uthman Taha, is included so that researchers can compare and realize that changes in the Quran’s writing are merely simple orthographic alterations. In other words, amazingly, there have been no changes in the Quranic manuscripts from 24 AH to the present, and it can proudly be said that the Quran is the only sacred book that has not been altered.”
