IQNA – Eighteen rare recitations by the renowned Egyptian qari Sheikh Mustafa Ismail have been gifted to Quran Radio for broadcast during the holy month of Ramadan.

Alaa Mohammed Hosni Taher, grandson of Sheikh Mustafa Ismail, presented the recordings during a meeting with Ahmed Al-Muslimani, Head of Egypt's National Media Authority.

“The efforts of Quran Radio have restored its esteemed status,” said Taher, conveying warm regards from his family and appreciation for the station’s dedication.

Taher announced that these 18 rare recitations, previously unreleased, would be added to the Quran Radio library to enrich its collection and commemorate his grandfather’s legacy.

Ahmed Al-Muslimani expressed gratitude to the family of Sheikh Mustafa Ismail, stating: “Listeners will be thrilled to experience these beautiful recitations for the first time during the sacred month of Ramadan.”

Sheikh Mustafa Ismail, renowned for his mastery of Quran recitation and known as the "King of Maqamat," left an enduring legacy following his passing 45 years ago. Born in June 1905 in Mit Gazal, Egypt, he memorized the Quran by age 10 and honed his recitation skills under prominent scholars such as Sheikh Idris Fakhir and Sheikh Muhammad Rafa’at.

His talent earned him recognition from King Farouk, as well as presidents Gamal Abdel Nasser and Anwar Sadat. Beginning his public recitations at 14, he captivated audiences in Egypt and internationally, performing in countries such as Iraq, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and France.

Sheikh Mustafa Ismail, who passed away on December 26, 1978, remains celebrated for his significant contributions to the art of Quranic recitation.
