Nasrallah was assassinated in an Israeli bombardment of southern Beirut on September 27, 2024. Israeli jets used 85 tons of explosives to destroy six residential buildings in Dahiyeh. This followed a week-long bombing campaign that targeted areas from southern Lebanon to Beirut.
Hezbollah delayed the funeral ceremonies for both leaders due to concerns about potential Israeli attacks on the event.
