The announcement, reported by the Saudi Press Agency on Sunday, noted that individuals who spot the crescent should report to the nearest court and officially document their sighting.
The start of Dhul Hijjah holds special importance in the Islamic calendar, as it determines the dates of the annual Hajj pilgrimage and Eid al-Adha celebrations.
The pilgrimage begins on the 8th day of the month and lasts until the 13th. This year, Hajj is anticipated to take place between June 4 and June 9, 2025.

The moon sighting will also finalize the date for Eid al-Adha, which falls on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah. The Day of Arafat, observed on the 9th of the month, is expected to occur on June 5.
