The president chaired the cabinet meeting in Tehran on Sunday evening.
In this meeting, Minister of Interior Eskandar Momeni presented a report on the implementation of the plan for the 2025 Arbaeen procession.
He said the number of Iranian Arbaeen pilgrims this year increased by 3 percent compared to last year, while there was a 4-percent rise in the number foreign pilgrims traveling to Iraq for Arbaeen via Iran.
According to the interior minister, this year the number of deaths among Arbaeen pilgrims due to accidents or illness has shown a 40 percent decrease compared to the previous year.
Momeni also said that all related institutions and ministries, including the Ministry of Health, the Red Crescent, the Police Force, and especially the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, performed well in facilitating the Arbaeen pilgrimage this year.
Following the minister of interior’s report, the president thanked all those involved in holding the Arbaeen ceremony.
Elsewhere in the meeting, the Iranian Foreign Minister presented a report on the latest developments in Iraq and Lebanon.

Arbaeen is a religious event observed by Shia Muslims on the fortieth day after the Day of Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the third Shia imam.
It is one of the largest annual pilgrimages in the world, with millions of Shia Muslims, as well as many Sunnis and followers of other religions, walking to Karbala from various cities in Iraq and neighboring countries. This year, the day of Arbaeen fell on August 14.
Some 4 million Iranians took part in the 2025 Arbaeen procession in Iraq.
