Bain-ul-Haramain is an area between the holy shrines of Imam Hussein (AS) and Hazrat Abbas (AS) in Karbala, Iraq.
Sheikh Salah al-Karbalayi, head of the religious affairs section of the Astan (custodianship) of Hazrat Abbas (AS) holy shrine, led the prayers.
On Friday evening, mosques and Shia centers in Iraq had announced the arrival of Eid al-Adha with the slogan ‘Allahu Akbar (God is great)’ based on an old tradition, so that worshippers could participate in the Eid al-Adha prayer in the early hours of the morning.
Karbala, which witnessed the arrival of hundreds of thousands of Iranian pilgrims and Iraqi Muslims from across the country to participate in the recitation of the Arafah Supplication on the day of Arafah on Friday, also witnessed heavy traffic of vehicles that transported people from all parts of the country to participate in the Eid prayers at Bain-ul-Haramain.
Eid al-Adha is one of the greatest Muslim festivities falling on the tenth day of the lunar Hijri month of Dhual Hajjah (June 6 this year).
Eid al-Adha is a reminder of the divine test for Prophet Abraham (AS) and his son Ismail (AS) who successfully passed it. The tradition of animal sacrifice is a reminder of Abraham’s sacrifice of Ismail.

According to Islamic Hadiths, Abraham had a son in his old age, and he named him Ismail and cherished him. When Ismail become a young adult, God ordered Abraham to sacrifice Ismail by slaughtering him with a knife. When Ismail learned about the divine command, he accepted to be sacrificed on the path of God, However, when Ibrahim put the knife on Ismail’s throat, a ram was provided by God and it was sacrificed instead.
