Officials at the holy shrine said the mourning symbols mark the beginning of large-scale preparations to host thousands of pilgrims expected for the annual occasion.

Ahmad al-Zurkani, head of the shrine’s attendants division, said nearly 2,500 volunteers will reinforce service departments during the two-day commemoration.

“They will be assigned to departments including public services, order maintenance, women’s affairs, hospitality, and a guidance unit for the lost,” he stated, according to the shrine’s website.

He added that the medical center named after the Prophet will also be supported with trained staff, while translators and specialists will be available to assist international visitors.

“All volunteers are registered in a precise database, and the necessary supplies have been provided to ensure they can fulfill their tasks,” al-Zurkani noted.

The shrine authorities have put in place a comprehensive plan to meet the needs of pilgrims paying tribute to Imam Ali (AS) and mourning the passing of the Prophet (PBUH), which occurred in Medina in the year 11 AH (632 CE).

The 28th day of the lunar Hijri month of Safar, which falls on Friday, August 22, marks the demise anniversary of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hassan (AS).
