Hojat-ol-Islam Ali Abbasi, President of Al-Mustafa International University, made the remarks on Sunday, June 8, during a meeting with a group of Iraqi students enrolled in the university’s short-term education and research program.
Congratulating the attendees on the upcoming Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Ghadir celebrations, Abbasi said, “All Islamic laws and duties are rooted in significant benefits for individual Muslims and the Islamic Ummah. Hajj is one such obligation, performed annually by millions, and it too serves major purposes.”
He emphasized that the annual pilgrimage could serve as a platform for Islamic unity and a venue for collective decision-making to resolve regional problems.
“Unfortunately,” he noted, “this opportunity is not being used effectively. If millions of Muslims from across the globe come together and address the issues facing the Islamic world, the enemies of Islam would not dare behave the way they do today.”

Abbasi also criticized a contradiction in the actions of some Muslim states. “They build hundreds of grand religious centers while simultaneously maintaining close economic ties with the Zionist regime,” he said. “This shows we have failed to fully harness the socio-political power of Hajj.”
He noted that, despite the outward strength of adversaries, “Victory for the just cause is a divine promise, one that has sustained believers since the time of the prophets.”
