The Astan (custodianship) of Hazrat Abbas (AS) holy shrine organizes the mourning rituals.
They are attended by Shia Muslims residing in Göttingen and nearby cities, according to Al-Kafeel.
Sayed Ahmad al-Radi, representative of the Astan in Europe, said the ceremonies will continue until the 10th day of Muharram (July 6).
He added that the programs include reciting the Holy Quran, reciting the Ashura Supplication, reciting elegies and poems about Imam Hussein (AS), and holding congregational prayers.
Al-Radhi noted that on the nights of the first ten days of Muharram, each session will feature a religious lecture in German, and a representative of the Astan will distribute votive food to the mourners.
Shia Muslims, and others in different parts of the world, hold ceremonies every year in the lunar Hijri month of Muharram to mourn the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions.
