According to Al-Ahram, the delegation included Abbas Shouman, Secretary-General of the Association of Senior Scholars and former Deputy of Al-Azhar, along with Salama Daoud, President of Al-Azhar University, and several university vice presidents.

During the visit, the delegation stated that hosting wounded individuals from Gaza in Al-Azhar University hospitals is regarded as a responsibility, adding that Al-Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el-Tayeb has pointed to the importance of providing full medical support and care for the patients.

Earlier, Al-Azhar had announced that all its hospitals are prepared to receive injured Palestinians and respond to emergency needs. It also said that humanitarian convoys, coordinated through Egypt’s Zakat and Charity House, have been mobilized in support of Palestinians.

In a separate statement, Al-Azhar noted that the names of those killed in Gaza will be remembered in the broader history of resistance against injustice, describing them as a source of inspiration for the continued Palestinian struggle to reclaim their rights.

Israel unleashed its brutal Gaza onslaught on October 7, 2023, after Hamas carried out its historic operation against the occupying entity in retaliation for the regime’s intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

The Tel Aviv regime has so far failed to achieve its declared objectives of eliminating Hamas and freeing captives in Gaza, despite killing 57,418 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injuring 136,261 others.
