IQNA – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian urged Muslim nations to overcome internal divisions and stand united, saying only true solidarity can deter enemies from violating the rights of Muslims.

Pezeshkian made the remarks on Monday at the opening of the 39th International Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran, which has drawn more than 210 figures from across the Muslim world, including ministers, grand muftis, and senior advisors. The five-day conference features panel discussions, book launches, and over 200 webinars with international scholars.

“If the Islamic Ummah becomes one hand around the Prophet, no enemy will dare to encroach upon its rights,” Pezeshkian said in his keynote address. He warned that “internal differences and divisions have paved the way for oppression and genocide against Muslims.”

The president invoked Quranic verses and the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) example of reconciling warring tribes in Medina to stress that brotherhood must be practiced, not preached. “It is easy to say ‘be brothers,’ but those people had killed and enslaved each other,” he said. “The Prophet declared, ‘Believers are brothers.’ That was his first step toward success.”

He drew a direct link between disunity and foreign intervention. “If the Islamic community were united, America and Israel or any other country would not dare to attack Muslims and ignore their rights,” he said. “Our problem is internal division, and we must start with ourselves.”

Pezeshkian sharply criticized Western claims to human rights, saying, “If something happens in Islamic societies, they say human rights have been violated. Which human rights? The kind that does not spare children, women, the elderly, and the sick, and commits genocide?”

He also recalled Imam Hussein’s (AS) stand at Karbala: “If you neither believe in religion nor fear the hereafter , then atleast be free from Tyranny and Arrogance.” He said Muslims themselves are responsible for allowing outsiders to exploit disputes. “They provoke fights, sell weapons, take our oil, and keep us occupied with internal quarrels,” he said.

“We are brothers with Palestinians, Iraqis, Qataris, Emiratis, and all Muslims. This brotherhood must be real and practical, not just a slogan,” he added.
