The Astan (custodianship) of Hazrat Abbas (AS) holy shrine has organized the festival, according to Al-Kafeel,
The opening ceremony was attended by Mustafa Murtaza al-Zia al-Din, Custodian of the holy shrine, Abbas Musa Ahmad, his deputy, members of the Administrative Council and heads of the departments of the Astan, along with official, religious and academic figures from inside and outside Iraq.
The ceremony began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by Qari Muhammad Reza Al-Zubaidi. Then, Hashim Al-Milani, representing the Astan, delivered a speech.
In this speech, he emphasized the need to explore Islamic heritage and examine the impact of Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) message on society.
A documentary film about parts of the life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and its high human values was also screened.
This festival, held to commemorate the 1,500th anniversary of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), lasts for three days.

The programs of the festival include a book exhibition, a gathering about the Holy Quran, a research session, a scientific meeting on the life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), a poetry reading session, and a public celebration at the holy shrine of Hazrat Abbas (AS), during which the names of the winners of the first ‘Al-Risalah al-Kubra’ (greatest mission) competition will be announced.
The goal of the Astan in holding the Rahmat-un-lil-Alamin Festival is to address the human mission of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) as a symbol of mercy, kindness, and peace.
