Secretary of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Behnam Saeedi made the remark in an interview with IQNA about US President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza, adding that the basic principle is that the sovereignty and decision-making rights of the people of Gaza and Palestine must be recognized, and no foreign power has the right to make decisions for them or impose conditions on them.
“What is of vital importance today is the immediate cessation of the brutal crimes committed by the Zionist regime in Gaza. The international community must not remain silent in the face of these crimes, but must act with all its political, media and humanitarian power to stop these attacks and to firmly condemn the behavior of the occupying regime.”
He noted that over the past months, thousands of innocent people, including Palestinian women and children, have been victims of the incessant bombardment of the Zionist regime. “The vital infrastructure of Gaza has been destroyed and the humanitarian situation is extremely critical. In such an environment, any plan that claims to be a ceasefire or peace must be examined with great care and sensitivity so that it does not become a tool to consolidate the occupation or weaken the resistance of the people of Gaza.”
Saeedi stressed that it is necessary to have an expert, accurate and comprehensive view about the proposal. “On the one hand, the principle of stopping the war and bloodshed must be targeted, but on the other hand, one should not be oblivious to the political behind-the-scenes and hidden interests of the designers of such proposals. Experience has shown that America is not honest in its foreign policy and its actions are usually accompanied by deception, trickery and hidden intentions.”
Highlighting the history of Washington’s dishonesty towards Iran, he reminded, “We witnessed the latest example of these dual behaviors in the negotiations between Iran and the United States. While the negotiations were taking place and the path of dialogue was supposed to continue to reduce tensions, the American side practically closed the negotiating table with missiles through provocative and military actions.”

He added, “In the case of the JCPOA (Iran nuclear deal), we also witnessed that despite an official and multilateral agreement, the US government unilaterally withdrew from it and imposed the most severe sanctions against the Iranian nation. These behaviors show that Washington does not even adhere to its signature and commitments.
“Therefore, any peace plan or proposal from the US should be viewed with caution and complete distrust. No conspiracy in the form of a ceasefire or peace plan should be allowed to violate the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.”
He added that in any peace plan, the Zionist regime must unconditionally withdraw from the occupied Palestinian territories, evacuate the occupied areas in the Gaza Strip, and immediately release all prisoners it holds from among the resistance forces and the defenseless people of Gaza.
“The release of these prisoners is one of the basic conditions of any real peace plan, otherwise, any agreement will be formal and deceptive.”
Saeedi added that today, thousands of Palestinian families in Gaza have lost their loved ones and a large number of people in the region are missing. “The status of these people must be clarified, as it is likely that many of them are being held in Israeli prisons. The international community and human rights organizations have a duty to prevent further crimes by directly monitoring the conditions of prisons and prisoners.”
The Iranian lawmaker also pointed out the need for Islamic countries to adhere to their religious and humanitarian duty towards the people of Gaza. “Islamic countries must support, with unity, any plan that leads to strengthening the resistance and protecting the rights of the Palestinian people, and in return, resolutely reject any plan that leads to weakening the people of Gaza or legitimizing the Zionist regime.
“Historical experience has shown that the Zionist regime has only been able to continue its crimes in the shadow of the world’s silence and passivity. If the Muslim and free-thinking nations of the world act together and in unity, this regime will no longer be able to shed the blood of innocent people with the support of Western powers.”

He went on to say that the final decision-makers on the future of Gaza and Palestine are the people of this land themselves. “It remains to be seen whether plans like Trump’s proposal will respect the rights of the Palestinian and Gazan people. The international community must keep its eyes open to ensure that new oppression and injustice are not imposed on this suffering nation.
“Any action or initiative that contributes to genuine support for the Palestinian people, the reconstruction of Gaza, the release of prisoners, and the end of the occupation is welcome, but any plan that has the interests of the Zionist regime and American political goals hidden behind it must be rejected with complete vigilance.”
