Abdollahi arrived in Tehran on Tuesday, where he was welcomed by a group of Iranian qaris, Quran teachers, reciters and cultural officials.

The Moscow competition, held on October 15–18 at the Moscow Cathedral Mosque, brought together participants from 30 countries. It was organized by the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Russia in cooperation with the Mohamed bin Zayed University for Humanities of the UAE.

Abdollahi won the top title in the recitation category, with Lebanon’s Muhammad Al-Fawal and Malaysia’s Aiman Ridhwan Mohamad Ramlan sharing second place. The third prize went to Ardiansyah Abu Bakar of Indonesia.

Speaking to IQNA after his arrival, Abdollahi expressed gratitude for the support he received from Iran’s Quranic community. “I thank God that I was able to achieve first place among the world’s distinguished qaris,” he said. “The level of the competition was very high, and the presence of well-known reciters made the contest tougher, but also more rewarding.”

He explained that his preparation for Moscow was years in the making. Abdollahi said he began professional training under master Saeed Parvizi and later benefited from the guidance of teachers Gholamreza Shah-Miveh, Abbas Emam-Jomeh and Mohsen Yar-Ahmadi. “This achievement is the result of collective effort and support. It is not the end of the path, but the beginning of bigger steps,” he said.

Mohammad-Taqi Mirzajani, head of the committee for dispatch and invitation of qaris, praised Abdollahi’s victory during the welcoming ceremony. “Winning first place at the international Quran competition in Russia is a remarkable honor for our country,” he said, noting that last year’s Malaysian champion was among the competitors. “The strong presence of such high-ranking reciters gives even more weight to Mr. Abdollahi’s achievement.”

Mirzajani, who also serves as deputy head of Iran’s Supreme Quran Council, said the focus now is on training a new generation of talented Iranian qaris. “Participation in global competitions is not just about ranking,” he added. “It is an opportunity to promote Quranic culture and showcase the beauty of Iranian recitation to the Islamic world.”

Abdollahi, from the province of Qom, serves as a muezzin at the shrine of Hazrat Masoumeh and at Jamkaran Mosque. He previously placed fifth in Iran’s 47th National Quran Competition.
