The Texas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-TX) on Wednesday condemned an “un-American and unconstitutional” the bill that would ban Muslim immigrants from America and deport any Muslim immigrants already present under the guise of targeting any immigrant “who adheres to Sharia law.”
On October 14th, 2025, CAIR-Texas sent a private letter to Rep. Roy’s office requesting a meeting to address his misconceptions about Islam and to connect him with Texas Muslim constituents, including veterans, small business owners, and faith leaders, who embody the values of service, faith, and patriotism. His office did not respond to the invitation.
“Representative Roy’s un-American and unconstitutional publicity stunt masquerading as a bill endangers the American Muslim community and misrepresents the Islamic faith,” said Sameeha Rizvi, Civic Engagement Organizer at CAIR-Texas Austin Chapter. “It stokes fear and prejudice instead of promoting understanding or security. Texas Muslims, like all Americans, deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, not scapegoated by elected officials.”
In the letter, CAIR-Texas emphasized that misleading and inflammatory narratives about Islam continue to fuel bigotry and division. The organization reaffirmed its commitment to open dialogue and education to combat misinformation and promote mutual understanding.
CAIR-Texas also highlighted the story of a retired Marine Corps veteran from the community who prays five times a day, fasts during Ramadan, and donates to charity: all integral aspects of sharia (Islamic law) that reflect moral discipline, service, and compassion. This bill instead promotes anti-Muslim bigotry and misinformation under the guise of protecting national security.

Earlier Wednesday, CAIR’s national office released a congressional briefing memo urging lawmakers to reject unconstitutional, anti-Muslim, and anti-sharia bills like Rep. Roy’s. In a statement CAIR Government Affairs Director Robert S. McCaw, who authored the briefing memo, said:
“These unconstitutional proposals exist not to solve any real problem, but to sow fear – to make Americans talk fearfully about Muslims and their beliefs rather than listen to what Muslims are saying about Israel’s genocide in Gaza and its apartheid in the West Bank. Trying to ban ‘Sharia’ is no different than banning Jewish or Catholic law — it’s an attack on religious freedom itself. Congress must defend the right of every faith community to live free from government suspicion or coercion. The path forward is simple: replace fear with understanding, hate with engagement, and ensure that religious liberty remains a promise kept for all.”
CAIR-Texas encouraged Texans of all backgrounds to contact their Congressmember and oppose all legislation that discriminates against any religious or ethnic community.
