IQNA – A former chief minister of Indian-administered Kashmir described the election of the first Muslim mayor of New York City as a “powerful stand against the entrenched forces of fascism, money power and Islamophobia”.

Zohran Mamdani, a Muslim, was elected as New York City’s 111th mayor.

 

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti congratulated Zohran Mamdani on his “stunning victory” as New York City’s 111th and first Muslim Mayor.

In a statement posted on social media, the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister said Mamdani’s victory marks not only a historic milestone but also a powerful stand against divisive forces.

“Congratulations to Zohran Mamdani on his stunning victory as New York City’s 111th & first Muslim Mayor — a triumph that marks not only a historic milestone but also a powerful stand against the entrenched forces of fascism, money power & Islamophobia,” Mehbooba wrote.

She added that Mamdani’s “unwavering progressive vision and steadfast commitment to justice” had prevailed over an “aggressive hate campaign led by none other than US President Donald Trump.”
