
The conference was organized in the Turkish city from November 4 to 6, 2025, by the Abdullatif Al Fozan Award for Mosque Architecture in collaboration with Istanbul Technical University, Sabaq reported.
It brought together a group of academic and scientific figures and leading international experts and specialized organizations.
Meshary Al-Naeem, secretary general of the Prize, emphasized that the theme of the conference, “Rethinking the Mosque,” is a serious call to reconsider the role of the mosque in society in light of contemporary architectural and social developments.
He explained that the aim of the conference is to advance knowledge, exchange expertise, and highlight global best practices in mosque design.
The conference program included scientific sessions, roundtables, and specialized research presentations that examined the current state of mosque architecture.
Workshops were also held focusing on the Turkish experience and the educational and social dimensions of mosque design, especially those intended for children.

The conference also saw the publication of a book titled “Rethinking Mosque Architecture” in two volumes, containing over 1,740 pages of peer-reviewed research, to serve as a scholarly and architectural reference for scholars and enthusiasts of Islamic architecture.
