Terror Plot Targeting Mosque Foiled in Ireland, Lithuanian Suspect Held

IQNA – A Lithuanian man has been arrested in Ireland on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack on a mosque in Galway, with community officials confirming the plot involved collaboration between a Lithuanian and an Irish far-right group.

Together with another suspect, the Lithuanian reportedly planned to help a far-right group blow up a mosque in Galway.

“In this case, the terrorist attack against the mosque and Muslims was organized not only by Irish nationalists, but also by a Lithuanian. There are two individuals, an Irishman who has been arrested and a Lithuanian who has been specifically mentioned,” Arunas Teišerskis, the chairman of the Lithuanian community in Ireland, told LNK TV.

Foreign media identified the arrested Lithuanian as Karolis Peckauskas, aged 38.

In early November, explosives sufficient to make three bombs were found in the car both men were traveling in as well as in the Irishman’s home, according to reports.

The men have been charged with possession of explosives and are facing prison terms of up to 14 years.

Lithuania’s Justice Ministry, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the police have no information about the detained Lithuanian, according to LNK TV.
