IQNA – Istighfar (asking for divine forgiveness) and repentance before God do not reduce the power of man and society, but rather help increase the power and dignity of the individual and society.

Istighfar (asking for divine forgiveness)

Asking for forgiveness from God is a factor in increasing the power of the nation.  According to Verse 52 of Surah Hud, Prophet Hud (AS) says to his people:

“My nation, ask your Lord to forgive you and turn to Him in repentance. From the sky He will loose an abundance (of rain) upon you; He will add strength to your strength. Do not turn away as sinners.”

It is inferred from some verses of the Quran that one of the characteristics of the people of Aad was their power and physical strength (Verse 20 of Surah Al-Qamar: 20; Verse 7 of Surah Al-Haqqa; Verse 69 of Surah Al-A’raf).

The expression “He will add strength to your strength” emphasizes that one should not think that believing in God and paying attention to Him means turning away from wealth and power.

In fact, asking for forgiveness and repenting to God not only do not demand anything from our wealth and power, but they cause the strength of faith to be added to their physical strength, and in this respect they become stronger. In fact, by seeking forgiveness, repenting, and humbly bowing down before God, we not only do not become small, but we become stronger, greater, and more beloved.
