The Iranian Consulate in Sierra Leone has observed the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) with the theme "Factors and Obstacles of Islamic Unity" at their Garrison Street office in Freetown.

In his remarks at the ceremony, the Principal of the International Islamic Institute, Dr. Jawad Raghavi, congratulated Muslims on the occasion of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him).

He said before the birth of the Prophet, humanity was plunged in darkness and that upon His coming in, Allah bestowed His kindness on the world as he was sent as a mercy to the whole universe.

Dr. Jawad Raghavi quoted Sura Anbiya 21 v 107 which reads "Wama arsalnaka illa rahmatan lilaalameena "We sent thee not but as a Mercy for all creatures".

Iranian Cultural Attaché to Sierra Leone, Mr. Ghezelsofla, gave a brief history about the Islamic Unity week stating that the week has played an important role in bringing the various denomination of Islam on a single platform.

Mr. Ghezelsofla informed the audience that the late Imam Khomeini's (RA) farsightedness helped bridge the gap of five days between the two dates of believed to be the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

He reiterated that in order to bridge this difference and use it as an opportunity to unite the ranks of Muslims, the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini (RA) designated the period of Milad-un-Nabi celebrations from 12th to the 17th of Rabi al-Awwal as the Islamic Unity Week.

This dynamic concept, he went on to say, is aimed to bring all Muslim schools of thought on the common platform of Islamic unity.
