--Religious theater and in particular ‘Taziyeh’ should not be taken as an ornamental art, especially because our theater even today has roots in religious and Islamic traditions and rituals.
Saying this to IQNA, prominent Iranian actor Ali Nassirian added that Taziyeh is an influential ritual art which we need to try to hold it as gloriously as possible rather than letting it become an ornamental art.

“Many an actor and actress in the field of cinema and theater who are outstanding figures internationally began their works playing roles in Taziyeh performances,” he said.

He noted that making use of such modern equipment as loudspeakers and modern clothing in Taziyeh spoils the originality and this ought to be avoided.

Nassirian referred to the strong presence of narration in Taziyeh performances as the main feature which differentiates it from other forms of drama.
