--A conference was held this week in Athens, Greece, dubbed ‘Secret to Imam Khomeini’s Victory”.
The event was organized by Islamic Republic of Iran’s cultural consulate in Athens on the occasion of the 18th departure anniversary of the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Iran’s ambassador to Greece, Mehdi Mohtashami, in his speech at the conference noted that Imam Khomeini had a multidimensional character. He said that Imam brought together religion and politics and this was one of the secrets to his success.

“Imam believed that the holy Quran was the pivot of unity and without the Quran freedom and independence was not worth anything,” he added.

Dr Mista Kido, translator of Nahj-ol-Balaqa and Mowlana Rumi’s Masnavi, in her speech said “Imam Ali (AS) has taught us that God has granted some individuals special capabilities to save humanity. Imam Khomeini was one of these individuals whose character was so great that it takes years to get to know him for who he really was.”

She referred to Imam Khomeini’s acting upon Islam and the teachings of Imam Ali (AS) as the reason behind his great achievements.

Sayyed Mohammad Reza Darbandi, Iran’s cultural attaché in Athens and secretary of the conference was next to take the podium. He pointed to Imam Khomeini’s pure intention as the reason why he had so many great achievements and added “Whatever Imam Khomeini did was for the sake of God. He paid no attention to the worldly benefits that might come out of what he did. What mattered to him was acting upon what God wanted from him.”

Xaristous Kheljias, author of the book “Political Islam”, Naim Al-Ghandouri head of Greece’s Muslims Association, Dr Avanglous Ventiz, lecturer at the University of Lyden, and Dr Mohammad Taqi Shariatpanahi, history scholar, and Sayyed Ashir Heydar, secretary of Pakistan’s Shiite Society were among other speakers at the conference.

They cited Imam Khomeini’s leadership power, simple lifestyle, piety, and foresight as some of the factors that helped him achieve success.
