US Seeking to Reclaim Balance of Power in Region

The United States and some Arab states by seeking Assad’s fall are making attempts to bring back the balance of power that was in their interest.
This is according to Lebanese lawmaker Ali Fayadh who, on the sidelines of the International Conference of University Professors and Islamic Awakening, spoke to the Office for the Preservation and Publication of the Works of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khamenei.
Here are excerpts from what Mr Fayadh said about the regional developments:
The Middle East is currently undergoing transitional and strategic developments. There have been many factors in play leading to the current situation, from the disgraceful retreat of the US forces from Iraq, which was an outright defeat, to the developments in the Arab world, especially those in Egypt that led to the fall of Mubarak and as a result of which the United States lost a center in the region through which it could implement its agenda.
These developments had huge impacts on the balance of power in the region and created new equations. It was in reaction to these developments that the Western countries and their regional allies started attacking Syria, which is the main link in the pivot of resistance.
What is going on in Syria is not about political reforms. It may be one of the aspects but not the major issue. The main issue in Syria is that Western countries and their regional allies are attempting to overthrow the Syrian government of Bashar Al-Assad. The reason behind these attempts is that Syria is an ally of the Islamic Republic of Iran, supports the resistance movement in Lebanon and opposes US policies in the region.
The current conspiracy against Syria is aimed at bringing back the power equilibrium in the region so that it will be in the interest of the West.
Of course, it is clear to us that the plot will end in failure and regional and international balances will not allow the fall of the Syrian government. But it should not be forgotten that they seek to threaten Syria’s unity.
The United States and Israel are behind all the conspiracies against the unity of the Islamic Ummah. Arab governments should clearly indicate their stance toward the US and Israel.
It is a great contradiction that undemocratic countries claim to support democratic change. Actually, they have aimed the Syrian government because it is a strategic ally of Iran and supports the resistance movement.
We are in a transitional period and will need to pass through numerous stages before reaching stability, but as Hezbollah Secretary Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah said in his Muharram speech, the future of the region is in the hands of the heroes of resistance.
