Jakarta University to Host Forum on Muharram Rituals

TEHRAN (IQNA) – A scholarly forum on “Muharram Rituals in Indonesia” will be held on November 11 in Jakarta Islamic State University of Syarif Hidayatullah.


According to the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO), the program will be organized by Indonesia's Zulfaghar Institute in cooperation with the Iranian Cultural Center in the South East Asian country.





Agus Sunyoto, author of “Atlas Wali Songo” which is a history and collective biography of Wali Sanga (nine Muslim saints from Indonesia), Zuhairi Misrawi, director of the “Moderate Muslim Society” and Muhammad Rusli Malik, eminent Shia Indonesian intellectual will deliver speeches in the forum.





An exhibition of cultural products and documentaries featuring Muharram mourning ceremonies in Indonesia will be held on the sidelines of the program.



 



Indonesia, an archipelago comprising thousands of islands in South East Asia, is the world’s most populous Muslim country.
