Anti-Islam Protest Turns Violent in Australia

Around 500 riot police and officers on horses tried to separate 300 protesters after an anti-racism crowd was met by anti-Islam protesters in Coburg, in northern Melbourne.

According to police, the march against migrants used Australian flag poles to attack the rival group whose members wore Guy Fawkes masks.

Witnesses say the police fired pepper spray at least six timesas scuffles continued.

After the clashes ended, police confirmed two men were arrested and charged for violent behavior, one for assaulting a police officer, one with obstructing an officer, one with attempted robbery, one for carrying a knife and one for having data-x-items that could be used for graffiti.

Muslims in Australia experience racism three times more than the national average, according to a recent survey by the Western Sydney University.

Attacks against Australia's Muslim community increased in part since the rise of the ِDaesh (ISIL, ISIS) terrorist group, and this is the seventh anti-Islam rally turned violent in Melbourne.
