Visually-Impaired Egyptian Who Has Trained 800 Quran Memorizers
He was born into a poor family in a village in the North African country’s Beheira Governorate.
At the age of 7, he lost his eyesight due to lack of proper treatment of an eye infection.
But it did not deter him from learning the Quran by heart and becoming a successful Quran activist.
Hamed soon started memorizing the Quran and, after three years, learned the entire Holy Quran by heart at 10.
He also mastered the principles and rules of Tajweed recitation of the Quran.
He later studied religious sciences at university and is now a retired Khatib (preacher) of Egypt’s Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Ministry.
Sheikh Hamed now teaches Quran memorization to children, men and women.
"Thank God, some 400 adults as well as 400 children have so far memorized the entire Quran in my classes,” he says, stressing that he will continue teaching the Quran to the new generation.
Sheikh Hamed’s only wish is to be able to make the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, with his wife.
