Titled "Necessity of Peaceful Cooperation and Solidarity between Muslims and Christians; Iran: Cradle of Peaceful Religious Coexistence”, the seminar was held in the Greek capital of Athens, the website of the cultural center reported.

A number of Greek scholars, university professors, thinkers and cultural and political figures attended the event.

Addressing the seminar, Iran’s Ambassador to Greece Majid Motallebi Shabestari highlighted the history of peaceful coexistence among followers of different faiths in Iran, and said with the efforts of the Islamic Republic’s officials the trend has been further strengthened.

He further referred to the acts of terrorism committed by some mercenary groups in the region and the world and regretted that these groups have sought to tarnish the image of religions by committing these crimes in the name of religion.

Motallebi Shabestari underscored that violence and extremism have no place in Divine faiths and that Islam and other monotheistic faiths strongly condemn terrorist activities.

The Greek speakers at the seminar hailed Iran as a country that does its best to counter extremism in the region and promotes peaceful coexistence among religions.

They also reiterated that extremism and terrorism have no place in any religion and that terrorist groups should not be allowed to commit their crimes in the name of religion.
